East Cowes isn't really a tourist area, it is mostly residential. It's ideal for a base if you have your own transport, and don't mind driving round the island. The good thing is if you are sailing with Red Funnel, you are literally only just up the road.
Waitrose, a doctors surgery and 2 pharmacies are all nearby, as is Osborne (Queen Victoria's island home). I think Osborne is the only nearby tourist attraction.
I found East Cowes to be very quiet. Ideal after a long day exploring and having fun. However, if you want to stay right in the middle of things, you will be disappointed.

There is really nothing in East Cowes, however it is a 2 min ferry ride to Cowes. The ferry goes every few mins, either foot passenger or car. No booking needed. The ferry puts you in the middle of town. Highly recommend to stay in East Cowes and ferry to Cowes. Far less expensive.

An easy walk down to the waterfront.
An easy walk down to the waterfront. Take the floating bridge {chain ferry} across to Cowes. Lovely little town to walk around.
Good pub called The Lifeboat within walking distance of the Prince of Wales, good food and great view of the boats.

Liked the attitude of most people around the shops as friendly and helpful.
Does have quite a few hills to walk up and down so not suitable for people who struggle walking a lot
Tried the chain ferry for a first time and it is quick.
Hardest part for us was going back on the car ferry as no seats for us to sit down and very full. People were not spaced out as they were on our trip over there.
Not enjoyable standing 1 hour on a evening.

Easy Cowes isn’t as big as Cowes, but they have a few shops, small Co-op and some restaurants, we ate one night at Sea Breeze fish and chip restaurant, the chips were lovely, and very large potions. An ideal base, close to the ferry port, and most other places.
Compact but comfortable, and very nicely presented, little house in a small courtyard development in East Cowes. We had our two (young adult) daughters and our dog with us and it didn't feel crowded.
Good location, easy access to West Cowes with the chain ferry adjacent. Vida's neighbour Noel is one of the permanent residents there and a great source of local knowledge such as up to date recommendations on dog friendly places to eat.
We loved the history of this hotel and the rooms and grounds were beautiful. We had dinner at the hotel and were also very impressed with the service and the food. The staff bent over backwards to accommodate us and our request for family to join us for our evening meal. It was a perfect evening and we sat outside enjoying the view of the garden.
Great choice of breakfast the next morning in the Victoria Room.
Albert Cottage is one of the prettier boutique hotels I have had the pleasure of staying in. The staff was all exceptionally kind and pleasant and went out of their way to accommodate us. We ate two breakfasts and one dinner there and the food was exquisite. the bathroom in the Victoria bedroom suite was wonderful with a heated towel rack and deep, claw-foot tub.
This was one of the most delightful breaks we have had. The hotel was excellent and likewise and particularly the staff from beginning to end. A most relaxing visit and very good food and value. I would be delighted to answer any questions by prospective visitors. We shall be back.
Modern cottage, well equipped and located a few minutes drive from East Cowes. You can admire the stars through the velux window at night and have a proper break from town hustle.
Hosts proposed a cot and high chair for our daughter which was much appreciated.
The hotel really is exceptional and the attention to detail in decor phenomenal. The food was so good we chose to eat at the restaurants on the two nights of our stay, instead of just the one we originally planned. Will definitely book again.
10 minutes walk from East Cowes Ferry Terminal, Ferry to West Cowes and Bus Stop. The Lifeboat pub nearby was nice. Also walkable to Osborne House 20-30 mins. As described, a simple home stay, with a friendly host.
The location and the difference of staying on a ship to a hotel was so fun and the kids loved it. The kids also enjoyed crabbing from the boat and playing on the piano on the ship.
1. Location- very close to East Cowes ferry terminal, supermarkets
2. spacious living area, TV, Kitchen
3. Breakfast- Cereals, yoghurt and plenty of fruits
4. Sweets in the room
The room, the decor, the dinner, the breakfast, the shower, nice toiletries, the wonderful location of Royal East Cowes. A beautiful location seeped in regal history.
We had a lovely stay in East Cowes, the location was very convenient, the house was clean and functional. It was especially lovely to enjoy the garden.
